Traduzir então & tão... que para o inglês

A dupla que mais confunde não é so e then, é so e such. O primeiro acompanha adjetivo solto; o segundo acompanha substantivo, com ou sem adjetivo grudado nele. Por isso "so a good movie" quebra e "such a good movie" funciona, e não há lógica em português que avise. Há ainda o so de início de frase, que traduz "então" no sentido de retomar o assunto — esse é oral, e escrito num e-mail formal soa desleixado. Ao traduzir, repare que a segunda metade da frase quase sempre é consequência involuntária: ninguém fez o teste ficar difícil de propósito para ninguém passar.

Traduzir frase inteira ensina o que traduzir palavra não ensina: a ordem, o tempo verbal e a preposição só aparecem quando a frase existe. Cada uma destas aceita 13.1 formas diferentes em média — porque quase nunca há uma resposta única, e reconhecer as variantes é metade do trabalho de entender quem fala. O Segredo
  • O 'So' funciona como uma seta (→) que aponta para o efeito: Fiz X, então aconteceu Y.
  • É o oposto do 'Because'. Use 'So' quando quiser focar no final da história.
  • Traduz perfeitamente como 'Então' ou 'Por isso'.
