Traduzir past perfect para o inglês

Ele não existe sozinho. Só faz sentido quando há OUTRO passado na conversa, e a função dele é dizer qual dos dois veio antes — é um marcador de ordem, não de distância. Aí está a diferença que atrapalha: o português usa "tinha feito" com liberdade, inclusive quando não há segundo evento nenhum, e a tradução automática espalha a estrutura por frases que não pedem. Vale ainda saber que ela vira opcional quando a própria frase já ordena os fatos com after ou before: se a palavra de tempo entrega a sequência, repeti-la no verbo é redundância, e o inglês falado corta.

Traduzir frase inteira ensina o que traduzir palavra não ensina: a ordem, o tempo verbal e a preposição só aparecem quando a frase existe. Cada uma destas aceita 10.5 formas diferentes em média — porque quase nunca há uma resposta única, e reconhecer as variantes é metade do trabalho de entender quem fala. Continuidade: 'Had been doing' enfatiza a duração da ação anterior (Ex: Eu estava esperando há horas = I had been waiting).
